Do Elephants Talk About Diets?

reflections & life lessons wellness-articles Sep 16, 2025

Have you ever pictured a group of elephants at the water hole comparing diet tips?
Or a pack of dogs at the park debating which food is "good" or "bad"?

It sounds funny, but it makes a clear point. Animals don't worry about carbs, calories, or the latest "superfood." They eat when they're hungry, stop when they've had enough, and move on with their lives, free from the complexities we've wrapped around food.

Meanwhile, we humans have turned food into a topic of conversation at dinner parties, around the office, even at family gatherings:

  • What diet are you on?

  • Did you fall off the wagon?

  • Is this food good or bad?

Somewhere along the way, eating became less about nourishment and more about rules.

Why We Complicate Eating

Unlike animals, we've layered food with guilt, pressure, and endless "shoulds." We've been taught to believe our worth is tied to what or how much we eat. The result? Second-guessing every choice and waiting for Monday to "start again."

But our bodies are already sending signals of hunger, satisfaction, and energy. The challenge isn't that the signals are missing; it's that diet culture has taught us to tune them out.

What If You Trusted Your Body Instead?

Imagine eating without a rulebook.
Choosing food not because it's on a list, but because it leaves you feeling steady, nourished, and satisfied.

That's what animals do every day. And deep down, it's what we're wired to do too.

A Gentle Reminder

Food isn't a test you pass or fail.
It's one of the many ways you care for yourself.

This week, maybe take a cue from the animal kingdom: trust your body's signals and let food support you, rather than control you.
