This week I started a new morning routine. You might be thinking big deal, right? But for me it was huge. Ever since I quit my corporate job in 2015, I have been struggling to figure out a consistent morning routine.
As children we have routines. Our parents set us up with a morning routine, as well as a bedtime routine, but as we get older, we don’t necessarily keep up these routines or realize how key they are to our overall health and wellbeing.
I tried getting up at 5AM to organize my day, read, and meditate, but that didn’t last too long. When my feet hit the floor, I have a hard time “slowing” down and relaxing before I start my day.
So, this got me thinking... what was my morning routine like when I had my corporate job. Ah yes, I got up at 5AM, went to the gym, came home, got ready for work, ate breakfast, packed my food for the day and then headed out the door to the Go Train to get to the office by 9AM. I was on the move as soon as awoke. That was it! I needed to go back to that type of routine.
I’m happy to report I have been following this new morning routine (get up at 5AM, go to the gym, come home, get ready for work, and then head out the door to train clients) for the past 5 days. I have way more energy during the day and am getting stuff done! I now reserve the quiet time of reading and meditating for the end of the day.
Yay me, winning with my morning routine.
